PRE PRODUCTION: I selected my fairytale because it was my favorite growing up and it was the one I knew the most about. I knew the Grimm version and everything. I altered it not much. Especially because my animation turned out to be pretty not a story, I made it more modern and more rich family heirloom type instead of princess type. I decided to make Rapunzel not have as long of hair because it wouldn't make sense since there's no magic involved. For my storyboard there was a lot more there then ended up in my animation, but I decided to have her sneak out on her own instead.
PRODUCTION: I decided to go with Adobe Animate. I went with it because I thought it would be the most simple and it would look great at the end. One of the major difficulties I encountered was that when I started drawing my character, I really wanted her to be detailed but I ended up having to make her not as detailed. I made her using mostly shapes as reference and pretty similar to the policeman.
POST PRODUCTION: I started off by making a background. After that, I started working on my character by making all the different parts in different areas, then making them into symbols for later. Then, I went into a movie symbol, put in all the character symbols and animated the character walking, just like with the policeman. After that, I went back into the main scene and used motion tweens to move my character across, which ended up being what I ended with. I know it has literally no story, but I tried making it so she seems stressed, and there's a crown (family heirloom) on the couch.

CAR ANIMATION
POLICE ANIMATION FIREFLY ANIMATION To start all of these animations off, I made the backgrounds. I mainly based them off of the ones in the tutorial, adding personal choices that I'll talk about later. After that, I added some extra stuff to the background (ex. the stars in the last animation) using tweens and symbols. Then, I moved on to making the symbols of the moving objects such as the car, the police officer, and the firefly. I went into the symbol, animated the object using motion tweens and then put them in and made a motion tween to move it across. Some design choices I made- honestly there weren't many because I copied the tutorials pretty precisely, but mostly color-wise. For example, in the firefly animation I toned down the colors a bit to make it a bit more night-like and more calming. Also not a design choice, but I though the police officers shirt was supposed to change colors so that was a mistake I made. I ran into some problems for all three. In the animation challenge, I made the wheels turn the wrong way. I was honestly a bit confused. For the policeman, I struggled with just finishing it. I thought it would be harder than it actually was but it ended up being simpler than I thought. For the firefly, I didn't size the trees correctly so that I would have more sky space, so I ended up having to make the stars in places that were harder to see. For this assignment I used tweens. I started by putting in the text and changing the color every 30 frames. (I added frames by clicking where I wanted it and going into modify convert to keyframe). Then, I added the star and used tweens and keyframes again. I also made it so that it spins around. After that, I added in a bug and using this other type of frame that turns gold I made it move. After, I put in shapes then deleted them every thirty frames and used shape tweens to make them transform.
Design choices was honestly just colors. At the start I was trying to go for more yellows but then I kinda just changed to whatever because I realized I'd be using a lot. And for the fly I was kinda just lazy. I didn't change its color at all and just made it black and gray like it would be in real life. Some problems I had was that at frame 120, I thought I had to duplicate the whole thing when I really just needed to duplicate the first one. This went on for awhile so that was basically a waste of my time. Then another thing was I spent a lot of time trying to make the fly go in a loop, which obviously wasn't successful. Also choosing colors was kinda rough at the start. |
